On the point source approximation of nearby cosmic-ray sources
In this paper, we check in detail the validity of the widely adopted point source approximation for nearby cosmic-ray (CR) sources. Under an energy independent escape model for CRs from the sources, we show that for young nearby sources, the point source approximation breaks down at lower energies and the CR spectrum depends on the size and the morphology of the source. When applied to the near...
متن کاملexcesses and the knee of the cosmic ray spectra — hints of cosmic rays acceleration at young supernova remnants
Supernova remnants have long been regarded as sources of the Galactic cosmic rays up to petaelectronvolts, but convincing evidence is still lacking. In this work we explore the common origin of the subtle features of the cosmic ray spectra, such as the knee of cosmic ray spectra and the excesses of electron/positron fluxes recently observed by ATIC, H.E.S.S., Fermi-LAT and PAMELA. Numerical cal...
متن کاملConsistent scenarios for cosmic-ray excesses from Sommerfeld- enhanced dark matter annihilation
Anomalies in direct and indirect detection have motivated models of dark matter consisting of a multiplet of nearly-degenerate states, coupled by a new GeV-scale interaction. We perform a careful analysis of the thermal freezeout of dark matter annihilation in such a scenario. We compute the range of “boost factors” arising from Sommerfeld enhancement in the local halo for models which produce ...
متن کاملCosmic-ray Electron and Positron Excesses from Hidden Gaugino Dark Matter
We study a scenario that a hidden gaugino dark matter decays into the standardmodel particles (and their supersymmetric partners) through a kinetic mixing with the gaugino of a U(1)B−L broken at a scale close to the grand unification scale. We show that decay of the hidden gaugino can explain excesses in the cosmic-ray electrons and positrons observed by PAMELA and Fermi.
متن کاملCosmic-Ray Spectra in Interstellar Space
At energies below ~300 MeV/nuc our knowledge of cosmic-ray spectra outside the heliosphere is obscured by the energy loss that cosmic rays experience during transport through the heliosphere into the inner solar system. This paper compares measurements of secondary electron-capture isotope abundances and cosmic-ray spectra from ACE with a simple model of interstellar propagation and solar modul...
